KATIE

Katie, excited to adopt a child

I’M SO THRILLED TO BEGIN THE ADOPTION JOURNEY, AND I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR TAKING A FEW MOMENTS TO MEET ME.

Adoption has been part of our family’s conversation for as long as I can remember. My nephew was adopted five years ago, and he has completely transformed our world. I know I’m biased, but my future children will be welcomed into the very best family in the whole world. We love to travel, explore, eat, and play together. I can’t wait to introduce you to them.

Thank you for your time, energy, and love as you get to know me a little better.

I promise you this: they will have a deep sense of faith, love learning, fight for justice in big and small ways, exude kindness, and seek wellness in all aspects of their life.

BIG CITY GIRL, SMALL TOWN ADVENTURE

I moved from New York City to Kansas seven years ago. I loved the city and never thought small town life was for me, but I fell in love with this community. Settling down in Kansas allows me to live a big, fun life – I can travel, spoil my family, and do things I couldn’t do financially when I lived in New York. And speaking of spoiling my family, Kansas means I get to spend most weekends with my five-year-old nephew (who was adopted as an infant) and two-year-old niece. We’re all about surprises, adventures, and – most importantly – snacks.

ROCK CHALK, JAYHAWK - MY WORK

I work at a college and am blessed to have a family-friendly work life. I’ll take significant paid leave after adopting. We have flexible schedules to support raising kids. We also have great early childhood centers. My child will be on campus with me when I return to work.

HAVE PASSPORTS, WILL TRAVEL

My family is always up for a spontaneous vacation. There are six of us in my immediate family and 13 in our broader group. I’m very close to my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins, and we prioritize annual family trips. We’ve recently traveled to London, Las Vegas, and New York City. We also have a beach house in Galveston, Texas. Our favorite memories are long lazy beach days, collecting seashells, and watching the sunset over the ocean. Closer to home, I’ve found an amazing friend-family. I’m eternally grateful for all of these families and the adventures we share.

THERE’s NO PLACE LIKE HOME

My house in Lawrence, Kansas is 109 years old and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I am completely in love with my home – and I realize now the projects on television are harder than they appear. I’ve loved diving into house projects.

My house is less than a 10-minute walk from the University of Kansas campus, downtown Lawrence, and the local elementary school. There are so many shops, restaurants, parks, and activities to keep me busy. And bonus – all of my friends live within walking distance too.

All I want for my children is to be happy, and I believe my job is to create environments and provide resources to support their health and happiness.

What I love to do for fun

My perfect weekend is a half marathon, a cheeseburger, and a nap. I’ve completed five marathons and am training for several more. Running teaches me patience, trust in myself, and balance. It’s impossible to run a marathon without taking care of yourself every single day. There’s also nothing to give you hope in the world like seeing thousands of strangers cheering you on to the finish line.

My goal is to run all of the World Marathon Majors races. I’ve run New York (twice!), Chicago, Berlin, and Boston. Just Tokyo and London to go!

My nephew cheers me on when I run!

ALL THE GOODBYE STUFF

Many nights, my family sends a text: “All the goodnight stuff.” It’s our shorthand version of “goodnight, I love you, see you in the morning, sweet dreams.” I can’t imagine how difficult this experience is for you, and I want you to know I am so grateful for the love you are bringing to this decision.

I can promise this child’s life will be full of adventure, learning, faith, love, and all the goodnight stuff.
